Over the past two and a half years Remade South East has been involved with WRAP, in large scale field trials involving the use of green organic waste on commercial horticultural crops in the south-east of England.
The trials took place on a wide range of crops including topfruit (apples and pears) stone fruit (cherries and plums) soft fruit (strawberries), hops and cauliflowers.
The total tonnage of compost used was just less than 15,000 tonnes. Apart from the well known properties of compost and its use in both agriculture and horticulture these projects were primarily focused on developing and opening up markets for the use of compost in the fruit sector being most relevant to the South–East.
