Since the inception of the project, the Hazardous Waste Directive has been introduced which has imposed disposal restrictions on business. Whilst this potentially opened up new markets for the project, the Directive also required a high degree of regulatory compliance for which the project was not fully equipped. The expertise provided by MDJ Light Brothers assisted in setting up a regulatory compliant system.
Since the partnership has been operating, over 170 tonnes of CRT Hazardous wastes and WEEE have been diverted from landfill and 5 permanent staff have been taken on from the original New Deal Scheme.
The partnership has enabled the facility to expand its commercial base to accept a greater range of WEEE, including televisions and other non IT office related equipment, within the existing infrastructure. CRT splitting is an additional service provided by Light Brothers at their Lewes facility.
The partnership has demonstrated a number of ways in which it has gone beyond the contractual minimums. MDJ Light Brothers has provided
