| Sustainable construction |
| Remade South East is developing a series of support services for construction sector organisations to draw on as they address sustainable construction. Our focus has been on developing services that local construction companies have told us they need. We have focused on three key areas: |
 |
information provision; |
 |
site waste minimisation and recycling support; and |
 |
procurement advice. |

Construction Resource Efficiency Course
Remade South East have developed a Construction Resource Efficiency Course to help businesses involved in the industry cope with the environmental pressures of today's market.
The course consists of three one day modules that cover all aspects of environmental best practice including legislative drivers, site waste management plans, the business benefits of waste minimisation, on-site segregation and recycling, plus how management standards and promotion can aid your businesses.

Communications Channel Audit
This work was funded by government support agency Envirowise and the objective was to understand more about how to get information across to construction sector small to medium enterprises (SMEs), which channels these organisations relied on and what information they would find useful. |

Smart Waste Rover
This ongoing project, which is funded by South East of England Development Agency (SEEDA) and part of a South East Centre of the Built Environment (SECBE) research programme, is piloting a support service that helps construction sector SMEs to minimise waste on construction sites and identify alternative routes for recycling or reusing materials generated on site.
Using the Building Research Establishment's (BRE) Smart Waste tools (www.smartwaste.co.uk), the “Rover” or support officer assesses the amounts and types of waste that are being or are likely to be generated and recommends ways of avoiding or recycling those materials.
If you would like more information on the Smart Waste Rover project, or have a site and would like help with minimising or recycling construction waste, please contact Remade South East. |

Interreg 111a Eco-Enterprise Programme |
| |
One of the key barriers to small to medium sized building firms looking at sustainable construction methods and materials is the lack of information, particularly on cost, pay back times and quality. The programme financed a report by Cyril Sweett which gives robust and clear information about the various alternatives currently available and the economic costs associated with them. |
